Indexing your blog url with Yahoo is an important step in Search Engine Optimization. Your ultimate goal should be to get your blog to appear in the first few pages of Search Engine results that are related to the keywords in your Meta tags.

I am going to show you how to get your blog indexed in Yahoo. It’s very quick and it’s very simple!

Please follow these instructions:

  • Create a Yahoo Email ID at Yahoo.com. If you already have a Yahoo email account, then you are fine and don’t need to create another one.
  • Now go to Yahoo Site Explorer. Click on the “Sign in” link at the top of the page and sign in with your Yahoo id and password from either your new account you just made or from a previous Yahoo email account.
  • Now that you are logged in, you will see a box that is titled “My Sites”. Type in the name (URL) of your blog in the box provided that starts with http:// Once you have entered your url, click on the “Add My Site” button. Once you submit your blog url, your site will be listed in the table on that page.
  • Click on the name of your blog that you submitted. You will be directed to a page that will give you a Summary of your url. There is a box in the left column where you will see a tab called “Authentication”. Authentication is a process where you need to verify the ownership of your blog. Once you click on “Authentication”, you will see you have 2 options…..(1) By uploading a verification file to my site (2) By adding a META tag to my home page. It is your option as to which way you would like to verify your site. Which ever option you choose, it will walk you through the process on how to do it. Your either upload the key file that it gives you to your root directory for adding a verification file or you copy the META tag that they give you in the first section of the page, before the first section.
  • Once you have either added your verification key or the META tag to your home page, then go back to your yahoo page and click on the button “Ready to Authenticate”. Once you click that button it will show that your site is pending authentication. It may take some time for the verification to take place.
  • Now, if you’d like, you can go back to the left column menu on Yahoo Site Explorer and click on Feeds to add your Feeds url. It will instruct you to type in your Feeds url.

Check your account after a few hours to see that you’ve successfully submitted your sitemap to Yahoo! You will also be able to view your Statistics, Crawl Errors, etc…
